Viscosity of Brines

The viscosity of most brines can be adjusted by additions of HEC or biopolymers. The viscosity characteristics of these products vary strongly with temperature. In order to judge the downhole viscosity measurements must be carried out at SBHT. To prevent losses of brine into the formation viscosities must be increasing with decreasing shear rates. Hence, a high YP is a prerequisite to prevent brine losses.
