While Winstar, Office.com's parent company, is feeling the effects of the tech wreck, Office.com remains operational and I include this campaign in the marketing section because it so eloquently illustrates the power of word of mouth in the small business marketplace. Capitalizing on the small business owner's reliance on referrals, Office.com built its subscriber base and raised awareness of its service through viral marketing. We at Warrillow & Co. also like the fact that they were talking to individuals at small businesses, not to the business itself.
