Earth's gravitational vector

  • The three axis accelerometer measures:
  • The earth's gravitational vector relative to the tool axis and a point along the circumference of the tool called a scribe line.
  • From this measurement, one can determine inclination and tool face.
  • The three axis magnetometer measures:
  • The components of the earth's magnetic field relative to the tool axes.
  • From this measurement and the accelerometer readings one can determine the azimuth.
